F. H. Hildebrand's Daftar Nama Pohon-Pohonan Bangka dan Belitung (1952) preserves a historical inventory of tree names used on Bangka and Belitung. Its value is not only botanical: local names are part of the islands' linguistic and cultural heritage.

How to read the historical list

The document includes local names, scientific identifications and geographical abbreviations. Entries specifically marked for Belitung should be distinguished from those recorded only on Bangka. The spelling and scientific classification reflect the period of publication.

Forest families and genera

The compilation includes names associated with tropical forest groups such as Shorea, Dipterocarpus, Diospyros and Syzygium. These examples are not a verified list of species endemic to Belitung.
